Computers, fate, and how a college student gets exercise

First, my sympathies to everyone who lost someone in the shootings at VA Tech.  And now for what I'm really posting this for...

You know how in my last post I said that having my laptop charger die was a "geek's worst nightmare"?  I lied.  Today I experienced a geek's true worst nightmare.  OK I'm probably lying again, this time I'll admit it, just so the forces of fate don't try to prove me wrong again.  Before I go on though, I just want to say, especially to any family members that might be reading this, I am a responsible person, don't think I'm a screw-up just because of this.  There are plenty of other reasons to label me a screw-up, but this is not one of them.

As I was leaving my first class today, I realized I had forgotten to pick something up.  It wasn't my bookbag full of textbooks, it was something that cost even more money (surprisingly there are things that cost more than textbooks :P).  It was my laptop.  I was almost all the way to the commons to eat lunch when I realized I wasn't holding it.  I ran back to the classroom, almost knocking some people over in the process (sorry), and it wasn't there.  So I went all the way back to my car to see if it was there, it wasn't.  So then I went to the commons to see if I could find anyone who was in the class that might have picked it up on the way out, I didn't look hard enough so I didn't find anyone.  Then I went back to the classroom to look harder, it still wasn't there.  Fortunately, I wasn't out of options yet, I went to the information desk in the commons to ask for help, and they told me that usually the professors will pick up any lost items in the classrooms after class.  I got my professor's contact info and called him, and EUREKA! he had it!  When I went to his office to pick it up, he was doing advising, which reminded me that I had to sign up for an advising appointment of my own, and now I'm signed up for an appointment at 12:00 on Monday.  So, some good did come out of this, it must be fate.  And besides that, all that running (yes, do you really think I was walking through all this?) got me some exercise, and reminded me how out of shape I am.  Maybe I need to lose my laptop more often, and just in case the forces of fate are listening, I'M KIDDING!
